5 Tips To Make Cycling Your Leisure Exercise

Your time on your bike does not have to be a constant struggle. Riding a bike is one of the most active ways to spend your leisure time.

Improve your cycling experience by following these five tricks:

1. Choose The Right Bike

The growing number of options can make it challenging to choose the right bike. But this should not stop you. Your bike can make or break your experience. How to choose the right bike?

Before you head out to the store, make sure to make a list:

  • What type of cycling will I be doing?
  • How much am I willing to spend?
  • Where will I store my bike?

Make sure to take your time answering these questions. Once you get to the store, take the bike for a spin before you pay!

Having the right size is not just a matter of comfort; it will help prevent injuries.

2. Choose The Right Gear

This is one of the most important things to get right. It has a significant impact on how fast and far you will be able to ride. The gear you have on will maximize your speed, endurance, and, most importantly, your safety.

Gear To Consider:

a) Helmet - This one may seem obvious, but getting a form-fitted helmet can help you avoid the distraction of it moving around.
    b) Cycling Uniform - No one wants to feel the sweat dripping down their body or having to adjust your shirt and shorts every few minutes. Make sure you are wearing form-fitting gear that has the quick-dry technology to help you ride smoothly.
      c) Shoes - The right shoes will help you stay the course! Having a stable grip is vital to riding, especially in rugged terrain.

        d) Glasses - Overlooked but very important. Whether you are blocking the sun or flying debris, choosing the right glasses will ensure you stay safe throughout your ride.

          e) Storage - A short stroll or a long ride, you never know when an emergency will hit. Consider buying a storage bag that can house your essentials like your phone, keys, and first aid kit.
            f) Other - If you plan to ride in the winter, thermal gear is key - don't leave home without it.

              3. Create A Habit

              Consistency, consistency, consistency!!

It makes a huge difference. Making cycling a habit will take that feeling of it being a chore. It will be something you automatically do and enjoy instead of something you have to do to stay in shape.

              What gets measured gets managed.

By making it a habit, you can set goals, follow your performance, and make the necessary changes to achieve your goals.

              4. Stay Safe

Please don't go out there and injure yourself. We are all for "go hard or go home," challenge yourself but be safe!

Don't link your cycling experience to a bad injury memory. Make sure you have the right cycling gear when you hit the road.

              5. Find Your Riding Style

Finally, make sure you find YOUR riding style.

It's fun to ride with other people but don't put yourself in uncomfortable situations that will make your riding experience a living hell. Push your limits but find your riding style, something that fits you, something that will make you enjoy the ride.

Hop on your bike, Get out there, and enjoy your day!

              • Cycling should be seen like a therapy. When you’re out there on your bike and giving it a go, all the stress and bad things are vanishing. Cycling is good for my mind and soul. Good way to stay fit and take a bowl of fresh air. No excuses !

              • Thank you for the tips. I am a newbie at cycling. My interest for cycling sparked for several reasons but my most important reason is to reduce stress. I found that I’m already following the order that you just mentioned in your blog; I just can’t wait to begin. This is a journey that I never thought that I would venture into but I’m excited!
