Cycling during Corona

It is needless to me to mention that the current Covid-19 outbreak forced us to take drastic measures and made us change our ways in every simple aspect of our life: at work, at home, with family and friends...Luckily for us, biking is still, according to experts, the best way to exercise outside during these challenging times without putting yourself or your loved one at risk. It is very important to mention that cycling during corona times may differ a bit from usual.

Is it safe to cycle outside? How do I respect social distancing while biking? what should I do?

We tried our best to gather as much information as possible to help you answer these questions and more. However, please check the regulations set by your city as it may differ. And, if you’re sick or at-risk of spreading the virus, you shouldn’t go out or exercise.

Cycling during Corona

How to cycle safely during coronavirus

As mentioned above, it is safe to ride outside. The best way of being to ride alone: it reduces your risk and keeps other people safe. Given that the virus spreads the same way the flu does, the best plan to ride right now is solo or in very small groups.

Ride With a Small Group

ere are some tips that should help you stay safe if you decide to ride in a small group:

  • If you have any symptoms, including a fever and a cough, or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you should not be going for a ride, as you risk spreading it to others.
  • Wear a mask, buff, or other face-covering while riding to protect yourself and others, regardless of your age and health.
  • Do not spit or snot-rocket on cycles or close other people walking or biking
  • Carry sanitizer and sanitizing wipes to sanitize your hands, your handlebars, and your lock (after it contacts a bike rack), especially if you use a shared bike.
  • Wear gloves—fingered bicycling gloves work fine!—when you’re out in public.
  • Practice good hand hygiene at all times.
  • Try to go biking when the traffic is low and when there are fewer people outside.
  • Keep two meters apart from anyone you meet and stop and wait for people to pass when necessary.
  • Ride responsibly in order to avoid injuries while our health service is under additional pressure.

As long as you can adhere to these rules, cycling can be done relatively safely and with minimum risk to you and those around you.

Ride responsibly to remain active, get fresh air, and stay connected with the world around us. Bikes are ideal physical distancing vehicles so Keep On Cycling! Be safe.
